Why have I been sent to chiropody?
Your doctor or nurse feels that you will benefit from extra care from the chiropody team. They will have contacted chiropody and you will receive an appointment in the post.
What happens when I arrive?
You will be asked to wait outside the chiropody consulting room and called in when ready. You first appointment will last approximately 50 minutes and you will be thoroughly assessed. A treatment plan will be created and referrals or follow up appointments can be made.
The assessment involves asking questions about your current health and lifestyle, medications and whether any problems similar to yours have occurred in your family. A full examination of your foot will take place and you may be watched while you walk across the room to help the chiropodist make the best management plan for you.
What should I bring?
We don't need you to bring anything particular with you, but please dress in shorts or loosely fitting trousers so we can see your legs from the knee down.
I have been sent to orthotics, what does this mean?
Orthotics is a department located in a different area of the hospital. It is a specialist service for those with moderate to severe foot problems and makes footwear tailored to the individuals needs.
I have difficult trouble finding shoes that fit well, where can I buy some?
The chiropodist has a comprehensive list of outlets providing wide fitting footwear which she can provide you with.
