Set up in 1977 by Dr Ted Hothersall, the Haywood Foundation (Haywood Rheumatism Research and Development Foundation) is a charity dedicated to helping local people with arthritis and related conditions.
The Foundation raises money by donations, a charity stall based at the Haywood, legacies, and specific fund raising activities and events.
The Foundation achieves its aims in a number of ways:
- Buying important items of equipment for the hospital - e.g. the Dexa scanner and a new Ultrasound machine
- Funding a research programme based at the Haywood Hospital
- Providing financial support for the educational development of rheumatology nurses, physiotherapists and other health professionals
- Pump priming new posts to develop care for patients with arthritis and related conditions e.g. The Nurse Lecturer in Rheumatology Nursing was funded for the first 5 years by the Foundation, prior to Keele University taking on the funding
The Foundation's plans
We want to build a new education centre at the Haywood. This centre will be for patients, carers and health professionals. It will include a library and state of the art Internet links.
If you want to help the Haywood
We are always looking for help - donations, holding events or fund raising activities. If you'd like to help, please contact Maria Shaw, Secretary to the Foundation's Committee on 01782 673706.
