Congratulations to the Haywood Hospital Fracture Liaison Service team whose project was chosen to receive an Innovations and Best Practice Award form the Community Hospitals Association in 2009. The team received their award at The Marriott Preston Hotel in May 2010.

Congratulations to Lesley Radford (Senior Bone Densitometry Radiographer) who was awarded a PGDip Advancing Practice with a distinction in October 2009 from the University of Birmingham.

Congratulations also to Tim Malpass (Bone Densitometry Technician) who recently successfully passed his Postgraduate Certificate in Osteoporosis Management.

Good News:

The Haywood Hospital Pain Service received commendation at the National Scientific Meeting of the British Pain Society, held 13 – 16 April 2010 in Manchester. The team was recognised for its novel and promising work in the field of chronic pain. The scientific submission of the IMPACT Service was one of five selected for commendation out of a total pool of 1309. The submitted work detailed how to adapt a successful clinical pain treatment programme to a primary care setting. The Society’s Scientific Committee applauded the highly innovative nature of the work, as well as its relevance to the NHS.

Kay Stevenson, Consultant Physiotherapist, has had an abstract accepted for oral presentation at the Joanna Briggs Colloquium Chicago in September 2010: ‘Integrating evidence, changing practice and closing the research-knowledge gap: An example of how UK clinicians are tackling the issues.’ K Stevenson, N Hellis, K Dziedzic, J Jordan, NE Foster.
